The search for the missing costume...
Nah, if you thought am writing about some mysterious situation around me. Even worse if you thought I am writing a short shorty or reminiscing about famous five or secret seven mysteries. This is an unadulterated “ Ah” moment that got me opening my blog.
For over the last 2 weeks those on my social media or in my inner circle would have seen me ask for random things like a long white dress/white shoes/hair brooches/veil and the like. While my wiser daughter warned me about these hassles and avoided participation, I gave a long lecture on how being a part of school events is integral part of growing up. Sometimes its wiser to just keep quiet. The whole thing backfired on me, and each evening was spent in hunting some part of this costume. It is deceptively simple and you must be thinking oh! all this is so easy to source. Try me, please! You can never go to one shop and assume there will be stock. With a busy work schedule , my timings were restricted to evenings only and that again narrows down closer options to home.
What is this “Ah” momemt? This is quite common in India before any school annual day. I am not special.
While I was rushing to work, my maid came in and showed me her kids annual day invite. Well you may think it’s a forceful habit, but I had given the same spiel on participation for kids in school and made her daughter join the annual day. She was apprehensive and me being all excited , told her I will support her and she needs to encourage her daughter. While she showed me this, she added saying, “ I need to source hair accessories/bangles and few other items. So I will need to go from work to Luz and search for the same. Why can’t they tell us where to buy these things?”.
That was the moment. For some reason it just made me pause and smile. Simple as it sounds, you are mostly never alone in searching for the missing costume. And you can extrapolate this to most life situations right? Sometimes all you need to do is to take a step back and things may seem a lot more in focus.
