Collaboration begins at home
Collaboration is an often quoted word across many situations. Why doesn't the team collaborate? It's an important skill in today's world. Learn from the other team, see how seamless they make this look.
Sounds familiar ? I couldn't help but notice the similarity and effortless collaboration that starts at our homes.
Picture this. Our family of four have our own schedules to run and classes and work meetings to attend. The older daughter is passionate about baking and by the time it's weekend she would have shortlisted the menu for the week. Typically between Monday to Wednesday she will look up recipes and links and ensure,I keep all the ingredients ready. She very well knows that I won't like last minute surprises or requests and it obviously becomes difficult to accommodate.Thursday or Friday is usually the baking day. The schedule is such there are small breaks for the kids between classes. She breaks down the baking to smaller portions. Instructs the dad his role in this process and mine and ensures all are aware of our responsibilities. While she puts the cookies in the oven, the mother ensures it's taken out . The second batch is planned the same way too , post which it's all neatly packaged by the youngest in the family. Not to forget we have cleaning responsibilities too. Finally the perfect end product is there for everyone to enjoy. The roles and responsibilities may change basis the task or skill set but the whole process is more enjoyable as everyone is involved. This also ensures it's a less cumbersome process as the work load is distributed. Of course every time it's not the perfect end product but it's still a joint effort to learn from mistakes.
Does this seem fairly simple? Yes it sure does. Because it's both breaking down the task and ensuring everyone knows their part. Both happens seamlessly and this effortlessly translates to results.Seems more sustainable in the long run and the level of collaboration depends on comfort levels and this also keeps evolving. Interesting right? Just think about it and you do realize you are probably doing this subconsciously. You think this is far fetched and impossible, then start small. It sure gives a sense of importance to everyone to contribute and learn.
Of course it's my personal experience and yours maybe a different perspective. What do you think?
I felt as though I was reading our family journal!!!!! Same to same. It's almost mechanical to the point of irritstion if you know what I mean and its usually me who throws a spanner in the works of this deeply complex system!!!!!! Great read :-)))
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I can relate to the you relating part and for us Tanisha will take care of throwing the spanner if at all and do it convincingly too:))
